Hi-Tea at The Halia

Nestled within the gorgeous grounds of the Botanic Gardens is a little haven of sorts. Stepping into The Halia Restaurant, I unconsciously slowed down my speed to match its lovely calm settings.

Whenever possible, I try to opt for outdoor seating rather than indoor - it usually has a better view. But mainly because kids seem less noisy in a non enclosed area. The weather was beautiful, so we were glad to sit out.

I was thrilled at the idea of high tea with my girls. Poppy was ecstatic at the idea of "Dessert? Without eating real food first? WOW!".

We were greeted with cake, cake and more cake. Which really impressed my 4 year-old. She had a decent portion of chocolate cake then decided very maturely to stop.... Until the 2 tiers of little bites arrived and she wiped out all the chocolate eclairs. Yes, Poppy is a fan of chocolate.

The weekday tea-time set includes a selection of assorted macaroons and cakes, and you can choose from a range of premium teas, floral infusions or coffee to complement your treats. The weekend set is beautifully presented on a two-tier tea stand - savoury delights on the upper tier, and sweet treats on the lower. They include (do you have your bibs ready?) Smoked Salmon Creme Cheese Roulade on Cucumber with Salmon Pearls (mmm mmm!), Passionfruit Meringue Tart (heavenly!) and Freshly Baked Scone with Housemade Orange and Ginger Marmalade (simply delightful!).

Poppy sipped her apple juice like a tai-tai, while I had my peach nectar tea and Calla got elbow deep in raspberries. Just me and the girls :) I look forward to many more hi-tea sessions as they grow older. Oh and I'm absolutely certain the other patrons really enjoyed their peaceful kid-free hi-tea session after we left :P

Raspberries were used as a garnish for the cake slices and I asked for a few more for Calla so she ended up having her own little dish. How nice of them :)

The Halia is located at Singapore Botanic Gardens. Enter by Tyersall Avenue, and the restaurant is a pleasant 1 minute walk via the coach parking area. If you enter by the Visitor Centre, it's a 15-minute stroll, which isn't a bad thing when the weather's fine.

    1. She was totally excited about the whole idea of being able to have desserts without any real food before. And because we sat outdoors, we were surrounded by nature and a squirrel even came to visit! Of course, Poppy managed to scare it away with a scream :)
