Me to Poppy: Wow aren't we lucky we decided to stay home?
Poppy: Why are we lucky, Mama?
Me: Because if we had gone out, we would be caught in the rain now, wouldn't we?
She thought about it for a moment then gave me a hug and said, "Yes, we're lucky"
And indeed we are.
She got me thinking about all the things that I'm so lucky to have, see, and do on a daily basis.
To hear my baby call me Mamamamamama. To be able to hold her and smell her and kiss her.
To have a 4 year-old who understands that sometimes Mama just needs a chill-at-home day and not everyday needs to be a big excursion day
To have an apartment with a covered 'porch' where we can doodle with chalk on rainy days or days that are just too hot to go out.
To have such lovely company with me whenever I'm waiting for the school bus to arrive.
To have a daughter who always wants to have special treats but also wants to make things special for others.
To have two babies that love each other - the older one that includes her baby sister in play, and the younger one that looks up to her older sister
To have the time and energy for simple random crafts on random afternoons.
To be able to watch my baby sleep
To be tangled up with my baby
I can only think of one word for all this.
I am truly lucky.
